Copano Mailbox Vandalism & Theft of Mail

Sometime in the last 24 hours the mailboxes on Copano were broken into and all contents were stolen.  Only a few boxes were missed.

The affected boxes are in the following clusters:
·      Box Banks  #144, 145 & 148 were all pried open and all contents stolen.
·      Box Banks #146 & 147 were not damaged.
·      4 Parcel Boxes - not damaged.

As soon as this was reported, I immediately notified Austin Police and the US Postal Service.  The Post Office will assess the damage and repair or replace the units.  I don’t know how mail will be handled in the meantime, but will follow up until I get an answer.

I stress that the boxes are now empty and all contents were stolen.  You should take appropriate precautions to protect yourself from identity theft and if you were expecting anything of value contact the sender.

If your mail was not stolen, you should go get it.  Mailbox break-ins are running rampant all over Southwest Austin, so it is important to pick up your mail daily.

Thank you to the neighbors who reported this.  Please share this information with any of your neighbors for whom we do not have contact information.

I will keep you informed as things develop and new details are learned.
